About 10 persons are feared dead and no fewer than 15 houses razed in the Tudun Adabu area of Obi Local Government, following a clash between rival groups. The incident which occurred at about 11am, Saturday, July 18 escalated into a bloodbath following disagreements between factions on which locality to produce the community head.
Sources say the uproar started when a new community head, Alhaji Muhammed Isyaka, paid a visit to the Osuko Obi, Alhaji Ogiri Orume, during the Sallah celebrations. Isyaka had visited Orume with some of his followers in a gesture of friendliness and mutual respect when a rival faction –obviously unimpressed about his installation as the new head of Mai-Angwan Tudun Adabu, disrupted the visit as they shot repeatedly into the air, causing a major scene.
Residents immediately deserted the community following the scuffle. The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mancha Christ, when contacted by Punch confirmed the clash but said there was no casualty whatsoever. Christ said the Police had taken control of the situation, as well as deployed its men to the vicinity to curb further altercations.
In a similar incident, 10 persons lost their lives, and many others severely injured in a clash between Eggon and Alago thnic groups in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State in September, 2013, in a Fulani-Tiv face off.
