The internet was buzzing earlier this week with news of a new thinspiration called the “bikini bridge,” or the empty space in between your stomach and bikini bottom when you lie down.This pretty random physical feature was being touted as the next goal in body perfection to rival the thigh gap. Thankfully, the whole thing was a hoax made up by some trolls on 4chan, who whipped up the batch of prank memes to disseminate around the ‘net. Still, experts are saying this fake trend has likely already caused damage to impressionable women with eating disorders. “When someone HAS an eating disorder, they will view this as a challenge – do I have that bridge?” president and CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association Lynn Grefe explained to the Daily News. “It just promotes the sad competition in a person’s brain, as they never feel thin enough.” (NYDN)
