New York pop recording artist, Ryder, has quickly become one of my favorite newcomers this year, with really only three full tracks under her belt. This week saw me jumping up and down like a little girl due to the fact I noticed the dark-pop princess premiered a brand new song… And it just happens to be a heartfelt, beautiful ballad! Let my shaking begin.
“Ain’t Nothing Wrong” is the name of Ryder’s new masterpiece and I was immediately taken back to the late 90s, listening to the voice of Vitamin C, yes Vitamin C. It is a compliment. I always tell everyone that the music today is inferior to what was released ten, fifteen years ago – except for the greatness of Lady Gaga – but it is nice seeing some of that influence in today’s tracks.
“One day when I’m not so broken, one day when my heart is open, one day I’ll be able to believe, ain’t nothing wrong with me,” the artist screams out on this kind of sad piece of perfection. I have commended Ryder for her vocal talents, and here she is giving her fans something completely different that what she created before. Damn I want to hear what a full album will sound like.
Ryder is currently unsigned, but if she keeps releasing shiny gems like this and the show-stopping “Night Takes Over", it will only be a matter of time before the gorgeous 20-year-old will be heard on the radio and selling out tickets to her first concert. I can do nothing but support Ryder’s work. How could you not? It is the leader of pop music making a much needed comeback.
As for the lovely Mr. Star, what else can I say that I haven’t possible said before? I could demand the release of the Virginity EP I have been waiting for since February, but that would get me nowhere since Jeffree said the EP has turned into a full length album. I could ask for a brand new track to tide me over, but my Konvict princess has already answered me.
“Best.Night.Ever.”, a loud track referencing Jersey Shore and Charlie Sheen’s antics premiered on Star’s official SoundCloud page as a free download for all his darling fans. A few months ago, Jeffree tweeted me that the track could possibly be a future single, but it seems as his plans have slightly changed. The singer is working 24/7 on new material and promises new music and videos very soon.
To be honest, when I first heard “Best.Night.Ever.”, I was not too impressed. It was not anything like I am used to hearing from Star, it’s no “Beauty Killer” or “Lollipop Luxury”, and it was not as pop anti-friendly like his previous release “Prom Night”, it is stuck somewhere in between. I do not want to see one of my favorite artists conform to pop trash. I like my Star with a dose of vulgarity.
Lucky for me, “whore” is incorporated and everything is complete. “Every night like Jersey Shore, passed out on the floor,” the artist sings about the perfect night out hoping he will remember everything when he awakes in the morning. The verses were good, not his best, but the power lies in the chorus which will have drinking and singing along. Thoughts?
